ABOUT INK&IRON
We are a boutique letterpress studio specializing in greeting cards, wedding inviations, and baby announcements. We print on 100% cotton [tree-free] paper and 30% recycled post-consumer waste paper that is generated using wind power and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. Our single cards are packaged in clear biodegradeable sleeves, and paper reminants are either reused or recycled.
OUR FOUNDER
Six years into her career T.J. Strandberg had a chance encounter with a letterpress wine label and it was love at first sight (that’s what some call fate). She bought two old presses, enrolled in design courses, and spent the next two years hobby printing and trading under the name Pilot Press. After two years of daydreaming about letterpressing full time, she decided to stop dreaming and to give it a go; so in 2009, she founded INK&IRON, which perfectly blends her love of design and her business background. At times she thinks she’s crazy for leaping on faith, but then she retreats to a land of ink and iron…and makes something beautiful with her hands and loves it. She hopes you love it, too.
LETTERPRESS
Letterpress is a centuries old printing technique where a raised image is inked and pressed into paper creating a three-dimension affect, a result truly unique to letterpress. It is a time consuming and labor intensive process, where inks are mixed by hand, paper is hand-fed into the press one by one, and one color is printed at a time. As a result, slight variations in color and ink distribution occur, but hey, that’s the part of the charm of letterpress.
